If you enjoy using the simulators at our chapter office and are thinking about getting into flight simulation at home, now is a good time.
X-Plane 11 is on sale for only $9.89 through December 11 on Steam.
(Steam is a well-known digital game distribution service. If you haven't used it before, you'll have to create a free Steam account and download Steam first.)
X-Plane 11 is the previous generation version of one of the most popular flight sims, and is still a very capable and expandable simulator. Adding it to your library for $10 is a no-brainer.
If you want to get the next generation of X-Plane, X-Plane 12 is also on sale through Dec. 11 for $40. The developer says they will raise the price to $80 at the end of the year, so now is a good time to grab it.
If you need a joystick, start with the $30 Logitech Extreme 3D Pro.
(We don't have any business relationships with any of these links. We just thought it was a good deal worth sharing.)
Looking for a nicer joystick or yoke? Don't have a computer to run sims on, and wondering where to start?
Read our SimSquad Guide to Flight Sims! We designed this for parents and mentors of our Young Eagles, but it's great information for anyone looking to get started in flight simulation.
You can also flip through the slide deck version of the guide, and here is the worksheet spreadsheet to download and experiment with.
If you ever have any questions, we're here to support you. Email our flight sim gurus at simsquad@eaa234.org.
P.S. Don't forget to RSVP for our holiday party!
